Food Hygiene is still a concern when eating out

The Changing Face of Food Hygiene 1

A recent report from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) reveals that, for many diners, their chief concern when eating out remains the standard of food hygiene in the restaurant.

Though the numbers show a downward trend for food hygiene concerns since the Agency began running its surveys back in 2010, more than a third of consumers surveyed have indicated that it is a cause for concern. The next largest issue for UK diners was the potential risk of food poisoning which, whilst a separate issue, shares many of the same causes with the general notion of food hygiene.

Talking in terms of general awareness, 84% of the almost 2000-strong sample of adults advised that they were aware of the food hygiene standards in establishments that they choose to eat.

This indicates that not only are people still worried about food hygiene, but that they are educating themselves on what the term means, what the standards are, and which local eateries are falling short of those standards.

We live in a world of social media and instant dissemination of information, meaning that if one customer believes that the food hygiene standards are not being reached in a given restaurant or cafe, then that will soon be spread around local blogs and Facebook groups.
